VIVAnews - Downstream oil and gas regulator (BPH Migas) maintains supervision over the distribution of subsidized fuel so as to bear on the quota of 40.49 million kl of fuel.
Chief of BPH Migas Tubagus Haryono said BPH Migas found that new methods of smuggling subsidized fuel were applied a few days ago in Palembang, South Sumatra. BPH Migas monitoring team discovered a gas station which had been manipulated .
"Behind the wall of the gas station there was a hole that leads to a large-capacity diesel fuel tanks, 10,000 liters," said Tubagus Haryono on Monday.
BPH Migas immediately asked PT Pertamina to take firm action against the gas stations as such. According to Tubagus, the rampant smuggling is because of the high fuel price disparity.
"The disparity instigated people to misuse fuel subsidies," he said.
Therefore, BPH Migas is playing an active role to tighten the quota to 40.49 million kl to keep fuel consumption from exceeding the quota. BPH Migas will continue making a memorandum of understanding with regions for supervising the distribution of subsidized fuels.
