VIVAnews - Two former executives of PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines named suspects by the Attorney General's Office over the alleged corruption of Boeing 737-400 and 737-500 leasing from U.S. company TALG. They are Hotasi Nababan and Guntur Aradea.
"They were declared suspects on August 16, 2011," said AGO spokesman Noor Rachmad, referring to Hotasi Nababan and Guntur Aradea, today.
Hotasi Nababan is former Merpati Managing Director. Meanwhile, Guntur Aradea Pigeon is former Merpati chief financial officer.
The case began in 2006 when the Board of Directors of PT Merpati Nusantara rented two Boeing 737 aircrafts from TALG in the United States, worth US$ 500,000 for each aircraft.
The funds amounting to US$ 1 million had been paid to the account of Hume & Associates through Bank Mandiri. However, PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines has yet to receive the aircrafts until today.
AGO investigators then saw the indications of corruption amounting to US$ 1 million in the case, thus elevated the status of the case from examination to investigation.
The AGO has questioned former Merpati Managing Director Cucuk Suryosuprojo Pigeons and Hotasi Nababan. In addition, AGO has also examined Merpati President Director Sardjono Jhoni as a witness.
The case came to light after the Federation of United Trade Unions SOEs reported the alleged practice of Merpati plane price markup to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
In addition to aircraft leasing case, the AGO is also handling the alleged price markup of the PT Merpati MA60 aircraft purchase.
