VIVAnews - State Housing Company (Perum Perumnas) is optimistic of being able to meet the government's target to build 62,500 low-cost houses by 2012. However, this year the company only built 20,000 low-cost houses.
"We are ready to help the government achieve the target. But, as of now there has been no assignment. Perhaps the assignment would begin next year. We take the initiative as a corporate action," said Perumnas Director Himawan Arif, in Jakarta.
"I am positively sure, as long as the total increase is steady. Moreover, if the PSO (public service obligations) budget is included, in 2012 it must be executed," he said.
Earlier, the government has allocated capital expenditure budget amounting to Rp168 trillion from the 2012 Draft State Budget.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said some of the capital expenditure budget which rose Rp27.2 trillion, or 19.3 percent compared to 2011 Revised State Budget, is aimed to support the construction of 175 low-cost rental high-rises.
In addition, the government will build residential high-rise units along with the supporting infrastructure as many as 48 twin blocks.
"The budget will also be utilized to finance the construction of 62,500 units of low-cost houses," said the president when delivering the Draft Bill on 2012 State Budget and the financial memorandum at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta.
