VIVAnews – Finance and Development Supervisory Board (BPKP) stated that 14 companies under palm oil company group Asian Agri have have evaded taxes worth Rp1.29 trillion for the last four years.

“There are differences in the report of profit and losses,” said BPKP Head of Investigation, Arman Sahri Harahap at Central Jakarta District Court, Thursday.

The arrears were found by BPKP after thorough investigation at the Tanah Abang 1 and 2 Tax Office.

“We calculated the amount of transactions with receipts but not included in the ledger. Then we calculated the substance,” he said.

According to Arman, BPKP has not yet been able to present its findings to the panel of judges because of the large number of dossiers.

“This is attached in the compiled report. Next Thursday we will present it because we have to gather 14 companies,” he said.

In response to the statement, Asian Agri’s party said it will only convey its opinion after obtaining BPKP’s copy. As the report is written, Asian Agri will take time to study it.

“This shows that the witness is not ready yet because out of 14, only 10 reports were completed,” said Agri Suwir Laut legal advisor Luhut Pangaribuan.

Meanwhile, another Suwir’s legal advisor, Muhammad Assegaf, said that the case his client was facing is a tax case, so it is different from the graft case.

“There’s a difference in the tax debt amount according to the prosecutor and the witness. This is a tax case, different from graft case. In tax case, this means debt. It’s not a crime,” said Assegaf.
