Indonesia Books Record of Monthly Exports

VIVAnews - Indonesia again booked a record in exports in 2011. The shipment of domestic product abroad in August was worth US$18.81 billion, up 37.05 percent compared to the same month last year which amounted to US$13.73 billion.

From January to August 2011, the exports were valued at US$134.85 billion, up 36.58 percent compared to the same position last year.

"Ten commodities dominated exports in August, as they did last month," said Central Statistics Bureau (BPS) Deputy of Distribution and Services Statistics, Djamal ES, in a press conference at his office, Jakarta, Monday.

BPS data shows that of the total exports throughout 2011, non-oil sector contributed US$107.37 billion. The largest non-oil exports mostly came from animal fats and oils worth US$13.96 billion.

From the aspect of business sector, the exports during the period of January-August 2011 mainly came from the industrial sector, which reached 60.75 percent. Oil and gas sector followed with 20.38 percent, then mining 16.35 percent, and agriculture 2.52 percent.

Indonesia's export market share has not much changed. China remained the target of export products with a value of US$12.83 billion, followed by Japan US$11.97 billion, and the United States US$10.65 billion.

"In August, India was at the fourth position of Indonesia's export destinations. So far, they escaped our sight," Djamal said.

On the import side, Djamal said the revenue of import to Indonesia stood at US$15.05 billion of value in August 2011. From January to August 2011, Indonesia's import value reached US$114.84 billion, up 30.90 percent compared to the same period of last year.

The largest share of Indonesia’s imports came from mechanical machinery and equipment, amounting to US$15.37 billion as well as electrical machinery and equipment with US$11.85 billion.

Given the records of the imports and exports from January to December 2011, Indonesia's trade balance still experiences a surplus of US$20.01 billion. Meanwhile, for August, Indonesia's trade surplus reached US$2.76 billion.
