VIVAnews - Safro Marizal, a member of local parliamentary in Bengkalis, Riau, was caught on CCTV stealing money from other people's bank account at a Bank Mandiri cash point (ATM).
No sanction has been imposed against the culprit by Crescent Star Party (PBB), a party in which Safro is affiliated. Party secretary of Riau, Suradi Sarian, said Safro has discussed the issue with the victim.
"There were talks between the both of them at a police station. Everything is settled," he said.
Earlier, Safro was alleged of taking possession of someone's money worth Rp1 million through an ATM using the card left on the machine. The crime took place on 26 August 2011.
Seconds before Safro used the machine, a Mandiri customer happened to take cash from it. Rushing, he forgot to complete the usual process and left the card on the machine. As he was on the way home, he was aware that the ATM card was not in his wallet.
In addition, a message sent by the bank reported that a withdrawal worth Rp1 million had just been made. He then returned to the spot.
The card had apparently been handed over to the security officers of the ATM by Safro. It was evident that the perpetrator had entrusted the card to the officers following the money withdrawal.
