VIVAnews - About 275 Christian leaders worldwide will gather between 4 and 7 October, 2011, in Manado, North Sulawesi. The Global Christian Forum event is a meeting of high-ranking Evangelical, Pentecostal, Protestant, Catholic, and Orthodox Christian to discuss the recent changes.

“We plan to examine the global trends that are changing Christianity, listen to the reports of developments and struggles of the church in various regions of the world, and discuss how our fellowship can be strengthened for the purpose of our common witness,” said the Rev. Wesley Granberg-Michaelson, a committee member of the Global Forum Christian from Reformed Church in the U.S.

Granberg-Michaelson said, rumors of the decline Christian followers are premature, especially in Africa and Asia. "In fact, today there are 560 million Pentecostals, which means one out of every four Christians has a Pentecostal background," he said as quoted by The Washington Post.

In Africa, the number of Christians increased in the last 100 years, from only a few million to now 375 million. "Making Christianity in Africa the most rapid growth," he said.

Global Christian Forum is open to all Christian denominations. This forum was established during the World Council of Churches’ meeting in Zimbabwe in 1998. However, the Global Christian Forum is claimed to be more representative than the World Council of Churches.

"World Council of Churches only includes one-forth of global Christianity," said Granberg-Michaelson, who was the WCC director.

Meanwhile, the Global Christian Forum is broader. "It's the only place that makes the full breadth of Christian world represented in a meaningful way," he said.
