VIVAnews - The government remains optimistic by setting the target of 2012 economic growth to be 6.7 percent amid the economic downturn that hit the United States and debt crisis that threatens Europe. In fact, the target was set when global economic conditions were not deteriorated as it is today.

"Every year we have a review over the State Budget. We should not be too worried and pessimistic about the crisis because we anticipate it. Meanwhile, we maintain the domestic market, so we’re optimistic that the target can be achieved," said Deputy Finance Minister Anny Ratnawati in Jakarta, on Wednesday.

The government's target is higher than the World Bank's prediction, which forecasted that Indonesia will only grow 6.3 percent in 2012. However, the World Bank believes Indonesia’s growth will reach 6.4 percent this year.

Anny said, in order to accelerate absorption of the budget, after the 2012 state budget is announced in November, the ministries and agencies could initiate the procurement of goods. The government is also reviewing the procurement of goods and services. Some of government expenditures that are not absorbed are building spending and acquisition of land related to the buildings.

She asserted that absorbing the spending more toward the end of the year will not cause inflation. The government is positive that the inflation rate until the end of year will be below five percent.
