Indonesia's Forex Reserves Still Secure

VIVAnews - Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Hatta Rajasa, said Indonesia's foreign exchange reserves of US$114.502 billion by the end of September is still secure. He nodded to the measure taken by Bank Indonesia in intervening the market by selling dollars.

"I'm sure the Indonesian central bank has considered over everything carefully," he said today, Oct 7.

The minister emphasizes the amount of foreign exchange reserves of more than US$100 billion, which is better compared to it was during the previous crisis.

As reported, foreign exchange reserves dropped by US$10.316 billion in a month.

The condition nearly resembles the April foreign exchange reserves which was worth US$116.5 billion. In fact, as of the start of the year, foreign exchange reserves had been increasing due to capital inflow following the 2008 economic downturn.

Spokesperson of Bank Indonesia, Difi A Johansyah said the foreign exchange reserves were used to repay foreign debts, to pay imports and to stabilize the rupiah.
