VIVAnews – The governments of Indonesia and Malaysia are again discussing border issues. One of the agenda to be discussed is the border area in West Kalimantan waters.

"The issues on state borders will again be discussed on October 16," Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Michele Tene told VIVAnews in Jakarta, Sunday.

According to Tene, the meeting will also bring up the border issue in Tanjung Datu area, which is rumored to be annexed by Malaysia. According to him, there are three boundary components to be discussed, namely the continental shelf border, territorial sea boundaries, and the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

Tene said, the matters of territorial sea boundaries and EEZ are still under negotiation with Malaysia. “The discussion on continental shelf boundary was completed in 1969," he said.

He added, related to the land boundary in West Kalimantan, Indonesia has had its own claim. However, Indonesia's claim has yet to be recognized by Malaysia.

Meanwhile, related to the land border in Camar Bulan, Tene said there has been an agreement between Indonesia and Malaysia. If any boundary violation by Malaysia is noticed, the RI Foreign Ministry will follow it up.

"Verification from the relevant agencies is important. If there is real evidence, we will protest against Malaysia," he said. "However, if the verification does not emphasize any violation, the protest will be called off."

Earlier, Deputy Chairman of House Commission I, TB Hasanuddin, found facts that stakes bordering Indonesia with Malaysia were not in accordance with the London Treaty of 1824. He claimed to find the data of Indonesia boundaries with Malaysia changed.

Based on Hasanuddin’s observation in the scene, the boundary stakes between the two countries were concaving from Indonesia’s side. As a result, he said, Indonesia could potentially lose 1400 hectares of land in the Camar Bulan and 80 thousand square meters in Tanjung Datu. "The stakes are currently not in accordance with the London treaty. Obviously, this adds to the territory of Malaysia," he said.

Hasanuddin promised to present his observation before the House Commission I. "I posses all the data and maps," he said.

Meanwhile, according to Deputy Chief of Information of Tanjungpura military command area (Kodam), Lt. Col. Inf Totok, Camar Bulan is the territory of Malaysia.

"This is based on a meeting between Indonesia and Malaysia in Semarang in 1978 that decided that the Camar Bulan area was situated in Malaysian territory," said Lt. Col. Inf Totok when talking with VIVAnews, Sunday.
