VIVAnews - Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi said border issue between Indonesia and Malaysia in Camar, West Kalimantan is still unsettled. According to Gamawan, since 1978 the two sides have been discussing it, but so far there has not been any decision on the case.
"I suggest that we don’t use the word "to annex". It was once discussed in 1978 in Semarang," Gamawan said in Jakarta, on Monday.
Gamawan stated that Indonesia and Malaysia have a schedule to discuss border issues every year. "We have just set up some talks earlier. In the future, we also have scheduled talks with Malaysia," he said.
He also emphasized the issue of territory border, which is not under the responsibility of the National Agency for Border Management (BNPP), but rather the Foreign Ministry.
According to Gamawan, this issue will be discussed in the meetings of related ministries today, chaired by Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa.
"We will discuss it with the related ministries. But the leading party is the Foreign Minister, so we joined the team. Let's see the result," he said.
This border dispute surfaced again after the Deputy Chairman of House Commission I, TB Hasanuddin, revealed about 1,400 hectares of land in Camar Bulan hamlet and 80,000 square meters in the beach of Tanjung Datu being annexed by Malaysia.
