VIVAnews - Riau Governor Rusli Zainal said he was optimistic the province would become one of the international gateways in the western region of Indonesia. This is related to the plan of bridge construction over the Malacca Straits to Malaysia. This project is planned to be executed in collaboration with the Malaysian Government.
"From a global economy perspective, many positive effects can come out of the construction of the Malacca Straits bridge. This is an important part. The development of infrastructure access is a solution to accelerating economic growth," Rusli Zainal told VIVAnews, on Tuesday.
Rusli said the Riau provincial government has teamed up with relevant agencies to hasten the project. So far, the project has been listed in the national development priorities through the all-Sumatra governors’ meeting some time ago.
DPD Chairman Irman Gusman said that in the near future he will coordinate with the Public Works Ministry and relevant agencies in realizing this project.
"DPD ready to encourage the efforts. The construction of the Malacca Strait bridge can be a showcase for the economic development in Riau," he said. "DPD is optimistic because if this can be realized, the general public would be impacted, the levels of prosperity and economic growth will go up."
