VIVAnews - Director of Operations of PT Aetra, Lintong Hutasoit said the contamination of Kalimalang River water will not disrupt clean water supply for Jakarta residents.
He emphasized the dire water condition in Jakarta, which is highly susceptible to contamination. "Water sources in Jakarta are vulnerable to this kind of pollution," he added.
So far, he said, the company still tries to figure out the cause of murky water in Kalimalang river. "From early indications of the physical features, there is the possibility of factory waste pollution," he said.
However Lintong refused to blame certain party which has polluted the river water. He promises to continue the efforts to prevent clean water supply to Jakarta from being disrupted.
Aetra Managing Director, Muhammad Selim, said he had contacted Perum Jasa Tirta II, and PAM Jaya regarding Kalimalang’s murky water. But until yesterday afternoon the water color had not changed.
Selim claimed he was not yet informed of the kind of waste which has polluted the Kalimalang water. "I have no idea about it," said Selim.
Meanwhile, according to Chief of Water Treatment Division of Jasa Tirta II Public Company, Sutrisno, the wastes that polluted Kalimalang river came from the overflowing water from Cileungsi and Cikeas at Bekasi upstream river due to rainfalls in Bogor, West Java.
The water that flows through the Kalimalang river is now more turbid than usual. The water color appeared darker and a little greasy. According to Muchtar, Head of a neighborhood association in Cipinang Melayu subdistrict, Makassar district, East Jakarta, the river water always looks more blackish every morning.
Many residents are worried that the change in water color and oil content in the river would affect the ground water that they usually drink.
"We're afraid the polluted river would affect the groundwater consumed by the residents," he said.
