VIVAnews - Chairman of the athlete’s dormitory committee, Rizal Abdullah, said the construction of 21 venues for the SEA Games XXVI in Palembang will be completed by October 28, 2011.
"A lot of venues (have been completed) already, almost everything is done," said Rizal yesterday.
Rizal, concurrently Head of of Public Works Service of South Sumatra Province, the completion of rock climbing venue is in fact constrained by time, because the installation of walls and footing walls cannot be done instantly.
"It’s confirmed. According to their target, there will be a test event for rock climbing on the third and fourth of November," he said.
The construction of the athletes’ dormitory is hampered by graft scandals. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named four suspects in the case, namely Mindo Rosalina Manulang and Mohamad El Idris, both were already convicted at the Corruption Court. Meanwhile Wafid Muharram is still going through court proceedings and Muhammad Nazaruddin is under investigation by the KPK.
Nevertheless, Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Andi Malarangeng was certain that the SEA Games will still be held early next month as scheduled.
"The SEA Games is ready to be held on time," said Andi.
He added that the yet uncompleted venues will be completed on time, prior to the opening of the SEA Games.
