VIVAnews - Commission I of the House of Representatives held a meeting with the Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais) and Indonesian Military (TNI) commanders to discuss the border issue of West Kalimantan, Friday.
"Commission I wants to know what really happened there according to TNI Commander and TNI intelligence BAIS," Deputy Head of Commission I, TB Hasanuddin, told VIVAnews.
Moreover, Commission I Head, Mahfudz Siddiq said the border issue must be brought to talks in an effort to seek better settlement. "We are in support of the government to solve the issue," he said.
The Indonesian Military referred to earlier agreement made between Indonesia and Malaysia in 1978 on borders. In addition, the Indonesian Military also looks at the map issued by the Dutch administration in 1905.
"With regard to the Dutch map, the Indonesian Military wants the border dispute be categorized outstanding border problem," he said.
Earlier, Chairman of Commission I, Mahfudz Siddiq, said the parliament will also hold a meeting with Home Affairs Minister and Defense Minister. The Commission I, he said, will take notice to information from the government regarding the borders in Camar Bulan and Tanjung Datu before jointly conduct an examination in the locations which were allegedly annexed by Malaysia.
The news about the annexation of Tanjung Datu and Camar Bulan areas in West Kalimantan surfaced from the claim of TB Hasanuddin of some findings. He said that about 1,400 hectares of land in Camar Bulan hamlet and 80,000 square meters on the beach of Tanjung Datu were annexed by Malaysia.
