VIVAnews - Camar Bulan, a small hamlet situated in Kalimantan, gains popularity due to the issue on border seizure. The House of Representatives Commission I claimed that Camar Bulan and Tanjung Datu are seized by Malaysia.
The issue which was initially focused on border stakes is then swayed to prosperity problem hitting the Indonesian citizens living near the state borders.
According to a Camar Bulan resident, Irham Djamani, the government has been paying minor attention to the border people. The gap of inequality between the border people and other citizens living in other regions in the country is apparent. "It's as if we live under segregation. We were like stepchildren," he told VIVAnews.
The residents claimed they are very dependent on Malaysia. They work and earn a living there. The Malaysian television channels and radio are broadcasted to the area. The residents even rely on the neighboring country for food.
According to Irham, such reliance should not have happened. "The border area has large natural potentials."
However, he went on, these are not managed properly. "The potentials are abandoned," he said.
Irham said that the residents only know, which is emphasized by a survey, that Camar Bulan region, which stretches over 10,000 hectares, actually contains highly valued potentials of mining, including uranium.
"Mount Pue allegedly contains uranium for nuclear materials. People exploited it but just by using traditional tools," he added.
Head of Mining and Energy Agency of West Kalimantan Province, Agus Aman Sudibyo acknowledged that Camar Bulan has been off the radar. "We cannot yet comment on the issue," he told VIVAnews.
Based on a study, West Kalimantan has an abundant amount of uranium in store. Uranium potentials have been found in Kalan, Melawi District, West Kalimantan. The uranium measured reserves in Kalan reach 900 tons at a level of 10,000 ppm.
