VIVAnews - After a short postponement in the production line, which has started on Monday, October 17, 2011, PT Freeport Indonesia now resumes 50 percent of the production of both underground and Grasberg mine.
"The production was halted because of strategic and technical considerations. Thank God now it is back to operation by 50 percent," said Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Darwin Saleh in Jakarta, Tuesday.
According to Darwin, the copper concentrate distribution pipe that was previously cut by protesters has been reconnected by PT Freeport Indonesia. Currently, the mining company has produced 207,000 tons of ore, 221,000 tons of processed ore and resulted in 5,460 tons of concentrate.
The Energy Ministry has delegated mining inspectors on behalf of the government to supervise the mining and mine maintenance.
Meanwhile, as regards the negotiations on Freeport workers' wages, he said it is not part of the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry’s authority.
Darwin claimed Freeport mines are categorized national vital objects.
