VIVAnews - Five Indonesian maids have been sentenced to death by decapitaton by a Saudi court.
The Indonesian government looks for forgiveness from both families of the victims as well as the Saudi King.
Spokesperson of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tatang Boedi Utama Razak, said various efforts are carried out by state representatives and the President. "Forgiveness is the only way to save them," he said, today.
Tatang told VIVAnews the government has set out a countless approaches for the liberation of the maids from beheading. Siti Zaenab, for example, has been subject to such an attempt since the Abdurrahman administration (1999-2001). "Siti Zaenab is still expecting clemency from the victim's family. Earlier, Abdurrahman Wahid, Megawati, and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono have begged sorry for Zainab's vice to the King. The King couldn't afford it. Only the family could," said Tatang.
Other maids, Aminah and Darnawati, have a unique case. "They have been forgiven. But the law considers mutilation a serious crime. The court eventually sentenced them to death," he said.
The fourth maid, Fatinah, is still on the death row. "The government has fought for her live. That's why there's postponement in her execution," said Tatang.
Tuti Tursilawati is another case. She is found guilty of killing her employer and stealing his fortune. "The family wants her to get decapitated as soon as possible. But there is still chance to have the clemency," he said.
