VIVAnews - Seven Indonesian military personnel are subjected to legal process due to the indicated physical abuse against civilians in Jayawijaya Regency, Papua.
172/PWY Military Area Commander, Col. Ibnu Tri Widodo, said the seven soldiers were found committing violence against a number of Kurulu people.
"The seven soldiers mistreated the civilians. They are now held in the custody of Wamena Military Police," said Ibnu.
Following the mistreatment, he said, all military members on duty in Kurulu were displaced.
The military personnel involving in the violent acts were those of low ranking officers.
Earlier, an NGO Kontras reported that 12 civilians in Kurulu District, Jayawijaya Regency, Papua, were ill-treated by several soldiers.
The Indonesian Militery personnel suspected that the 12 civilians were members of the Papua Free Movement (OPM). Upon the suspicion, the civilians were taken to the Batalyon 756 Kurulu post.
