VIVAnews - PT Kertas Leces, a state-owned enterprise focusing on paper production, has been underperformed within the past few years. In fact, last year the Kertas Leces lost Rp78 billion.
The new Minister of State-owned Enterprises (SOEs), Dahlan Iskan, visited Indonesia's second oldest paper factory to find out the company's difficulties.
Dahlan was shown the factory's boiler steam which has the capacity of 240 tons. The company's directors claimed the facility will be used to manufacture all kinds of paper.
"It can't be working that way. I want Leces to produce only MD tissue, for US export, and security paper. The two products can compete well in the market," Dahlan said.
To process the papers, a boiler steam of the capacity of 10 tons will suffice. The remaining 230 tons of capacity will be used to power the turbine, which may in turn produce electricity of 60 megawatt.
The boiler steam will only require 10 megawatt of electricity to work. Dahlan suggested that the rest of 50 megawatt can be marketed to state electricity company PLN.
