VIVAnews - Supreme Court Chairman, Mahfud MD, emphasized acquittal of corruption suspects in regional anticorruption courts and called for the dissolution of the courts, proposing that all corruption cases be heard at the Jakarta anticorruption court.
However, if corruption cases are not possible to be brought before the Jakarta court due to the many cases being handled, district courts may hold corruption trial. Mahfud denies assumption saying that more spending is required to bring cases to Jakarta.
"Who says that bringing cases to Jakarta will be costlier? There is prolonged case in Sulawesi which in turn leads to higher expense," he said.
Various parties voiced concerns about bringing corruption cases to the Jakarta anticorruption court.
Earlier, Indonesia Corruption Watch said regional courts had acquitted 40 suspects of corruption cases.
Out of the 40 acquittals referred to by ICW, four were at the Bandung Anti-Corruption Court, 21 in Surabaya and 14 in Samarinda and one in Semarang.
