VIVAnews - National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said Jakarta may have another huge flood in the coming rainy season.
"There is a big chance that Jakarta will have another huge flood as it did in 2002 and 2007," said BNPB spokesperson, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho.
The flooding is estimated to hit 62 spots in five Jakarta administrative areas.
Sutopo said 13 rivers that flow through the Indonesian capital are not capable of handling immense volume of water from high precipitation.
Uncontrolled river constriction is due to irresistible homes on the river banks.
In addition, 40 percent of the Jakarta areas are situated below sea level with poor drainage system.
However, he believes that Jakarta will not be subject to severe flooding as Thailand is.
