VIVAnews - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) grants loans to the Indonesian government worth US$180 million to help improve regional roads. The government plans to fix up roads of 470-kilometer-long road in northern Kalimantan and southern Java.
ADB Director of Southeast Asia, James Lynch, said the reconstruction project will include the strategic national transportation corridor.
"The recovery of roads along the important route will open accesses to markets, investment, employment opportunity, and social services to the poor," said James, today.
The budget for national road rehabilitation has been pushed to twofolds within the past two years. However, there has been excessive demand to quality infrastructures.
In addition, the Asian Development Bank or Islamic Development Bank will further collective funding to reconstruct 76-kilometer-long road worth US$65 million. The government nonetheless will prepare US$135 million of the total expected costs of US$380.5 million.
