VIVAnews – Deputy Head of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Haryono Umar is concerned that the actions taken against corruption cases did not affect the Corruption Perception Index (IPK). Therefore, KPK’s focus will be directed to improving public service.
Indonesia’s Corruption Perception Index has moved up to 3, compared to the previous 2.8. However, the increase of IPK number, said Haryono, was not affected by the number of actions taken by KPK.
“Amazingly, even though there were many actions taken against corruption, Indonesia is still considered the most corrupt nation,” Haryono said today, Dec 5.
Haryono said the index is related to people’s assumption of public service sector that is still full of bribery.
“Indonesia is still perceived as a corrupt nation because of the people’s and business world’s perception regarding our public service that is still contaminated with bribery,” explained Haryono.
“If people came for a license from the public officials, sometimes they only have to give Rp10,000 or Rp20,000. When asked, people would say bribery still exist there,” said Haryono. Therefore, he said, KPK claimed that the public service sector is the most important to repair, added Haryono.
Last year, said Haryono, KPK has ameliorated the public service sector in 10 cities. In the future, the attempt to improve the public service will be continued. “The House of Representatives have allocated Rp 24 billion of budget for KPK to repair public service next year. Of course, the efforts can’t be accomplished by KPK alone,” he said.
