VIVAnews – The processing industry has become a reliable sector for absorbing more employment, especially with regard to labor-intensive industrial sectors.
According to Industry Minister, MS Hidayat, the potentials and programs to take in employment for industries have been identified.
The sectors include food, beverage, tobacco, textile, textile products, footwear, furniture, petrochemical, and small- and medium-sized industries.
“Industrial sectors have the potential to absorb around 360 thousand workers per year,” Hidayat said today, Dec 14.
Hidayat said that out of the said sectors, the petrochemical industry has the most promising manpower absorption of 400 thousand people. “And it can increase to an average of 30 thousand manpower per year,” he said.
Second in place is textile and textile product industries that can absorb around 300 thousand manpower until 2014. Small- and medium-sized industries can absorb around 120 thousand manpower per year. Footwear industry can absorb 100 thousand people until 2014. Food, beverage, and tobacco industries can absorb 68 thousand people per year.
