VIVAnews – Transjakarta Community claims that the mass transportation mode TransJakarta has yet to improve services.  They urged the Jakarta administration to repair most of the buses immediately.

“We had a discussion with the Head of Transjakarta Public Service Agency, but so solutions are offered.  The conditions of most of the available buses are getting worse,” said Advisor of Transjakarta Community, Yanto Sugiharto in Jakarta, today, Dec 20.

According to Yanto, the Transjakarta Public Service Agency admitted that they cannot touch up the bus service for the time being due to the slow bureaucratic system.  The Public Service Agency, he continued, must in the first place submit a report as regards maintenance work and then wait for approval from their superiors before taking any action.

Yanto said that the Public Service Agency should be modified to a Strategic Business Unit (SBU) which can be financially independent. Thus, if maintenance work is on progress, they do not have to deal with complicated bureaucratic system.  Therefore, the buses will always be in good condition.

“We can’t be like that now.  Right now, when the buses need maintenance, we would receive the needed funds two months later,” he said.

He revealed that the modification of the bureaucratic system is greatly needed because people can’t wait any longer for the buses to be repaired.

“Do we have to wait until there are victims?  We should be considerate to the people,” he said.

The lack of maintenance, he explained, can be seen on Corridor I (Blok M-Kota).  Poor bus conditions, such as: leaking AC, standing passengers’ handles that came loose and peeled-off floor can be found in the buses.  The buses in Corridor I have been operating for more than 5 years.

However, Head of DKI Jakarta’s Transportation Department, Udar Pristono, said that there will be 44 new buses by the end of this year.  Several new buses will be allocated for Corridor XI which will be officiated on December 28.
