Five Surabaya Students Win Robot Olympics

VIVAnews – The students of Muhammadiyah Elementary School 4, Surabaya, East Java have won yet another contest.  This time, three winning titles were brought in by five elementary school students in the International Robot Olympics (IRO) 2011 in Jakarta.

Their car-shaped robot has eliminated hundreds of participants from 18 countries in the contest held on December 15-18. 

The five brilliant students include third grader Dimas Islami, sixth grader Nabil Hadjoe, sixth grader Axel Dawne, sixth grader Laksamana Agadia, and second grader Dhimas, with each obstacle qualifications of transporter and line trace.

“This makes us proud as the robot Olympics is of an international level in which 18 countries have taken part,” said the students’ teacher, Endik Setyawan, today. 

 “They got brief preparation.  However, we were able to finish 3 practices in one week.  On the second week, we practiced everyday with the involvement of Pen’s study group from ITS Surabaya,” he continued.

The five students were very happy and proud for winning the tournament. 

 “We are very happy and proud because the Olympics were attended by international students,” Axel said. 

When asked about their future plans, some of these students said that they want to become robot experts.  

“I want to make robots in all kinds of shapes.  The robots will be used to ease human’s work,” said Nabil.
