VIVAnews – AT, a junior high school student in Parepare town, South Sulawesi. The tragic story occurred as AT was on her way to Makassar during school holidays. She was raped by AR, the driver of the public minivan that took her there.
Police moved fast in hunting and apprehending the driver. “The suspect was caught in Parepare last Thursday and sent to Gowa Police Station because the incident took place in Gowa,” said Gowa Police Public Relations, Adj. Comm. Andry Lilikay on Friday, Jan 6th.
Based on AR’s statement, he committed the crime on Tuesday, Jan 3 around 10 p.m. The Parepare-Makassar driver picked up AT on Tuesday noon from her parents' home to be taken to her uncle’s house in Jl. Abdullah Daeng Sirua, Makassar.
However, AT’s parents request was declined. Until 10 p.m., AR still took AT around Makassar town with the excuse of transporting other passengers. When passing Jl. Hertasning Baru Gowa, AR then stopped the vehicle and raped her. “The suspect admitted his deeds. The rape was committed in the car,” added Andry Lilikay.
After AR raped AT, he then took her to her uncle’s house and ran away to Parepare. Although he was requested not to tell her uncle, AT still told her uncle about the rape.
The uncle then contacted AT’s parents in Parepare. They straightaway reported the case to the local police. With the help of other police units, they finally arrested the suspect last Thursday and sent him to Gowa Police Station.
To account for his actions, AR now is being detained in Gowa Police Station. He is facing Law No.23/2002 on child protection with 5 years of possible imprisonment.
