VIVAnews - A five-year-old girl of the initials of ASR, who was suspected of bird-flu negative, died at Persahabatan Hospital, Jakarta, on January 16.
ASR was a sibling of PDY, 23, a resident of Jalan Baru Ancol Selatan, North Jakarta, who was earlier dead due to bird flu infection.
ASR was admitted to the hospital at its intensive-care unit as of January 7.
Chief of Public Relations Division at Health Ministry, Murti Utami, said ASR passed away due to worsened physical condition. "The patient finally breathed her last on the 16th of January at around 2 a.m," said Murti, today.
Murti said that on January 13, ASR happened to have difficulty breathing. "At the moment, a PCR (polymirasea chain reaction) was done to her. It was found out that the patient was bird-flu positive," she said.
Director General of Disease Control and Environmental Health, Tjandra Yoga Aditama, said ASR had previously been diagnosed bird-flu negative.
"Based of the tests in the lab, she was bird-flu negative. We removed her from the isolation room following her excellent condition," Tjandra told VIVAnews.
Days after her isolation period was over, her health was gone from bad to worse. "Her condition deteriorated. She was transfered to the Intensive-care unit," she said.
Director of Persahabatan Hospital, Priyanti, said the preliminary check showed that ARS was bird-flu negative.
Data from Jakarta Health Agency, 8 out of 10 bird-flu positive patients were dead along 2009. In 2010, the death toll decreased to three; while in 2011, two out of three patients passed away.
