VIVAnews – Chairman of the Constitutional Court, Mahfud MD, Coordinating Minister of Political, Justice and Security Affairs, Djoko Suyanto, Minister of Home Affairs, Gamawan Fauzi, Chief of Police Criminal Investigation Department, Comm. Gen. Sutarman, Head of General Elections Committee (KPU) Hafidz Anshary, and Head of Election Supervision Agency, Bambang Eka Cahyo, today will hold a meeting on the evaluation of local elections throughout Indonesia.
Mahfud MD stated that the Constitutional Court has found many violations against the principles of democracy and elections. The Constitutional Court has struggled with many disputes about local election results for the past four years.
“Armed with our previous local election experiences since 2008, the Constitutional Court has initiated a National Seminar with the theme: “Local Leader General Election Evaluation”” stated Mahfud.
The Constitutional Court viewed that improvement is required to formulate a more systemic solution to doctor up the quality of democracy as well as to meet the goals of provincial autonomy.
“Therefore, evaluation and projection of ideas are needed to make better local elections in the years to come,” he said.
