VIVAnews – A South Korean investor plans to invest in Bali’s waste sector in the Final Disposal Facilities (TPA) in Suwung, Denpasar.
According to Ketut Teneng, spokesperson of the Bali administration, the South Korean investor has declared its interest. However, Bali has yet to respond over the proposal as TPA Suwung is still under the management of PT NOEI.
“The South Korean investor wants to invest in TPA Suwung. However, TPA Suwung is still under the management of PT Navigat Organik Energi Indonesia (NOEI) for 20 years since 2004. The Ministry of Public Works had granted Rp63 billion worth of fund to TPA Suwung in efforts to handle water spill from the waste,” said Teneng.
PT NOEI has not been able to fulfill its contract agreement with Badung Regency, Tabanan Regency, Gianyar Regency and Denpasar. Therefore, the provincial government will review PT NOEI’s contract and will find new investor.
“In the beginning, (PT NOEI) ensured us that it can provide 10 megawatt of electricity and compost. However, until now, they can only provide 0.7 megawatt,” he said.
Teneng said that the Bali administration is studying the legal aspect of its contract termination with PT NOEI. "We now can say that PT NOEI has failed,” Teneng said.
Bali considers replacing PT NOEI in case the contract is terminated. A replacement candidate is the South Korean investor.
“They’re even ready to make concrete blocks, gas-powered electricity, briquettes, and others. Well, the Legal Bureau (Bali’s provincial government) is mulling over the offer,” he said.
