VIVAnews – A property consulting and research institution, Colliers International, said local hotel owners in Indoneisa are beginning to compete with the foreign ones.
“I see that there are local brands that stand out and starting to compete with foreign brands, such as Maris with Maris Hotel, then Kagum Group Hotel, Amaroossa Hotel, and Santika Hotel," said Associate Director Investment Services of Colliers International, Aldi Garibaldi.
Aldi said that local brands are interested in managing hotels because of their affordable operational expenses. “They don’t have to recruit GM (general manager) from overseas countries because the skills of the locals are starting to fulfill the market’s demands,” he said.
However, he acknowledged that it is rather difficult to identify hard-working developers to build the hotels because there is a distinction between the owners and the operators. “There are things that we need to distinguish. Hotel owners are not necessarily the operators, and vice versa,” said Aldi.
For example, the operators of Santika Hotel are not the owners themselves. “So, it is difficult for me to say that person A is diligent at developing hotels or not,” he said.
