Tommy Winata to Initiate Sunda Strait Bridge

VIVAnews – Ministry of Public Works stated that PT Bangungraha Sejahtera Mulia has become the initiator of the construction of Sunda Strait Bridge along with the consortium of Local State-Owned Enterprises (BUMD) of Banten and Lampung.  The bridge will connect Merak of Java and Lampung of Sumatra.

Bangungraha is a subsidiary company of Artha Graha Group, which is owned by Tommy Winata.  

“The initiators are the consortium of Banten’s and Lampung’s BUMD, as well as a representative from Tommy Winata’s group,” said Minister of Public Works, Djoko Kirmanto, in Jakarta, today, Jan 31.

Djoko said the initiators have the responsibility to draw the planning and feasibility study within 12 months or until the government is convinced that this project is ready for construction bidding. 

He said as initiators, the consortium of Bangungraha and Banten’s BUMD as well as Lampung’s BUMD, must still join the tender process. However, they will receive a special right in the tender process.  “For example, they will receive 10 percent of preference,” said Djoko.

The Sunda Strait Bridge is expected to be erected by 2014 and would take around 10 years of construction. The project value varies, from an early estimation of Rp 100 trillion up to Rp 215.37 trillion. 

The bridge of 29 kilometers in length will be built using 2 suspension bridges as the main bridge spanning to 2,500 meters. The bridge will be equipped with gas transmission, railway tracks, electric transmission and drinking water. 

Meanwhile, for area development, various areas will be arranged, such as: industrial zone, tourism zone, energy zone, logistics zone, technology development zone, and export management zone.
