VIVAnews – Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) questions a number of witnesses in relation with the bribery case using traveler's checks during the elections of Bank Indonesia Senior Deputy Governor (DGS BI) in 2004, which was linked to the appointment Miranda Swaray Goeltom. Today, KPK is scheduled to quiz the Director of PT First Mujur Plantation & Industry, Budi Amal.
“He is chosen as a witness of the suspect Mrs. NN (Nunun Nurbaetie),” said KPK spokesman, Priharsa Nugraha, today, Feb 6.
Earlier, KPK has questioned a number of PT First Mujur’s officials including 3 commissioners, the president director and the finance director. PT First Mujur was the company who proposed the purchase of 480 travelers’ checks worth Rp50 million for the purchase of palm plantation in North Sumatra.
PT First Mujur’s partner, Suhardi a.k.a Ferry Yen called for the use of travelers’ checks for the purchase payment. PT First Mujur then agreed and purchased the checks from Artha Graha Bank. However, because the bank couldn’t meet the request, then Artha Graha bought the checks from Bank International Indonesia (BII).
Ferry suddenly canceled the transaction, but the checks were already sent to Ferry. Until his death in 2007, the reason of the cancellation was not known.
As a result, the checks for the plantation purchase went to Nunun Nurbaetie, the suspect of the travelers’ checks which were distributed to former members of Commission IX of the House of Representatives of 1999-2004 period for the purpose of electing Miranda as DGS BI in 2004.
