VIVAnews – The Indonesian government believes the set target announced in the "Indonesia Connected 2012" program can be achieved. Minister of Information and Communications, Tifatul Sembiring, said the only target left is to build infrastructures in eastern Indonesia.
“Right now, Telkom is connecting optical fibers from Manado to Ternate, then to Papua,” said Tifatul in Jakarta, today, Feb 6.
Tifatul said 80 percent of areas in Indonesia, or around 27 provinces, are connected to the Internet.
In addition to the Internet, 32,800 villages in the nation have been reached by telephone lines.
“Internet service centers are available in all districts,” he said.
The growth of internet users has far exceeded the infrastructure growth due to the development of various mobile devices. The growth of internet users in Indonesia within the past few years has been positive at 45 million.
The government is boosting the development of infrastructures to hit the target under the campaigns "Indonesia Connected 2012", "Indonesia Information 2014", "Indonesia Broadband 2015" and "Indonesia Digital 2018".
