VIVAnews – The Association of Housing & Developers in Indonesia (Apersi) welcomed the instruction of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Marzuki Alie, for the banks that supply the housing financing liquidity facility (FLPP) to support the government in reducing the home loans interest rates (KPR) for low-income people.
“If it’s intended to lower the interest rate, we agree,” Apersi’s Chairman, Eddy Ganefo, told VIVAnews in Jakarta, Feb 13.
However, Eddy called for Marzuki to urge Minister of People’s Housing to reopen FLPP at prior interest rate while waiting for negotiation between the government and the banks to take place.
“The most important thing is for Mr. Marzuki to instruct the Minister of People’s Housing to resume the previous FLPP,” he said.
Eddy said the resumption of earlier interest rate would enable Apersi to provide low-cost housing projects for the low-income.
The government is suggested to fully subsidize the program.
“The government shouldn’t be half-hearted in this. Of course none of the government banks would want to suffer losses,” said Eddy.
Apersi plans to file a class action suit if the FLPP program is not reopened by the end of February.
