Fahrul also said that the nomination of candidates by the Aceh Party has been in line with its statutes. The Aceh Party has its own concept of democracy in decision making.

“There are 15 models of democracy in the world and we aren’t using the liberal one. We have our own model with which all elements of the party, group representatives, and the consideration of the party’s Tuha Peut and Tuha Lapan are involved,” he said.

The group that will establish another party included those who have been terminated from the Aceh Party.

“I don’t want to give further comments about their termination. For sure, each organization and party has their own mechanism about their members and has been arranged in their statutes,” he said.

Earlier, hundreds of members and 12 former leaders of GAM were planning to establish a new political party to support their governor-deputy governor candidates, Irwandi Yusuf-Muhyan Yunan.

Victims of Discrimination

Former spokesman of Aceh Transitional Committee (KPA), Sofyan Daud, said that the reason behind the establishment of the new party to rival the Aceh Party because they felt discriminated by the party.  The termination was caused by a disagreement about the party’s governor-deputy governor candidates.

“We will fight by forming a rival party.  Not all of the Aceh Party’s members are former GAM members. It’s the same case with our party.  We will fix everything,” said Sofyan Daud.
