VIVAnews – The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said the current flash flood in Pidie, Aceh, which took place on Saturday, Feb 25, did not claim any life.
According to BNPB spokesperson, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, the residents of Tangse District, Pidie, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, have learned the lesson from the previous flooding on March 10, 2011.
The residents have begun to understand the symptoms of flash flood.
“The muddy waters and rapid rising of river level were quickly anticipated by the residents. They soon fled their homes to a safer ground,” said Sutopo in a statement today, Feb 27.
37 houses were swept away and hundreds other were submerged in the flood. A missing person was found with only minor injuries. Six others were wounded but have received medical treatments.
The affected areas are Desa Kebun Nilam, Blang Maloe, Blang Seuke, Ulee Gunong, Pulo Mesjid I, Pulo Mesjid II, Pulo Kawah, Neubok Badeuk, Alue Calong, Simpek, and Tanjung Bungong.
The disaster management agency deployed five units of heavy machinery to clean the area from wood debris and mud. The Blang Maloe Tangse road access is completely cut off.
The victims have been supplied with logistics.
