VIVAnews – Head of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Busyro Muqoddas, suggested that Ministry of Religious Affairs temporarily hold off the hajj registration. At the moment, the Hajj Pilgrimage Expenses (BPIH) have reached between Rp38 trillion and Rp40 trillion, with the interest of Rp1.7 trillion.
Busyro said that if the registration continues to open, the number will continue to rise. If it is not managed in transparent and accountable method, then it may lead to corruption.
“We have found that some were not used for hajj purposes,” said Busyro at the House of Representatives in Jakarta, today, Feb 27. However, he was reluctant to reveal the findings.
Busyro also said he remained uninformed of how long the hajj registration moratorium should last.
In relation with KPK’s suggestion, Minister of Religious Affairs, Suryadharma Ali, said the request was rejected as the moratorium period is difficult to determine.
“I respect it. He must have good reason or argument of why he rejected the idea,” said Busyro.
