VIVAnews - Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources announced that out of 10,235 mining concessions, 4,151 are deemed irregular.
Director General of Mineral and Coal, Thamrin Sihite, said the ministry collects the data in efforts to find out the real production values of mineral and coal.
"More and more regents and mayors have been calling for direct approval of mining concessions," he said today.
Most cases occur on the absence of preliminary exploration toward gaining concessions as well as land overlaps. "We have discussed the matter with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)," he said.
For the time being, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources are preparing the moratorium of mining concessions while at the same time settling various issues on irregular mining concessions.
