Indonesia-Morocco Developing Moderate Islam

VIVAnews - Known as Muslim-majority countries, Indonesia and Morocco are considered as having various things in common. Both countries are deemed as having successfully developed democratic countries.

"One of the similarities that Indonesia and Marocco should grow is to improve a moderate Islam," said presidential spokesperson Dino Patti Djalal on Monday, March 2.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Moroccan Prime Minister  Abbas El Fassi, conducted a meeting to explore the bilateral relation. The two leaders also agreed to improve the World Islam Economic Forum (WIEF).

Morocco has already held the parliamentary elections. The Moroccan government has many women officials. "President Yudhoyono praised it," said Djalal.

In addition to meeting the Moroccan Prime Minister, President Yudhoyono also met Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi. Both have also agreed on improving the WIEF.

WIEF may improve partnerships among Muslim communities as well as facilitating global Muslim and non-Muslim communities to reach an understanding.
