Export Decrease

February Export in Tanjung Priok Tumbles 25%

VIVAnews - The Directorate General of Customs and Excise detects export decrease through Tanjung Priok Port of 23-25 percent on February 2009 compared to the same period in 2008.

"I don't remember the [exact] number but compared to last year [number], it [decreased] around 23-25 percent, and it's not the total yet," said the Acting Officer of the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani at the Finance Department on Tuesday March 17.

To anticipate the export decrease, the government will arrange numbers of scenarios. Amongst other, if the export growth contracts minus five percent or ten percent, the risk on economic growth revision may occur.

Therefore, the government will try to create a stimulus program to increase the domestic demand which will be in effect on next April or May. Meanwhile, the impacts from several taxes stimulus have seen in the society which will be compensated by revenue reduction or company admittance.

"We will see. That's why I always see it from the budget cycle [factor]. The government will make further review based on the budget cycle, then report it to the DPR [House of Representatives]. If the situation significantly needs to be fixed, thus making DPR and government agree on changing the stimulus volume, it will be discussed on the second semester of APBN [state budget]," she explained.

The minister stated that investment is still positive. There is still 15-20 percent growth in lending. It is possible that the capital market will decline because the public companies which issue obligations will reorganise their expansion plans.
