Nike Orders US$135 M Shoes to RI

VIVAnews - Following the decision from Nike Inc. to cut shoe production order by 10 percent for four factories outside of Indonesia in March, domestic shoe factories have just received orders from the company recently.

"The US$135 million order has been handed down to Indonesia," said Chairperson of Indonesian Association of Shoemaker (APRISINDO) Edi Widjanarko in Jakarta on Thursday, April 30.

As many as five domestic factories in Indonesia received transferred order from Nike global, said Widjanarko. The transfer will be started in May 2009. "We produce shoes with average price of US$23 per pair," he explained.

Nike considers that Indonesia is relatively save and has better business climate compared to other distributors. "In fact, the elections did not cause Nike to reduce demand," he said.
