VIVA – The Minister of Communication and Information, Johnny G Plate said the implementation of the first Analog Switch Off or called ASO in eight regions which took place on April 30, 2022 could be an example for the next stages of ASO.

Previously, the Ministry of Communication and Information Number 6 of 2021 concerning Broadcasting, stated that it will gradually stop analog TV broadcasting in various regions until it completely switches to digital TV broadcasting no later than November 2, 2022.

Based on an evaluation conducted by the Broadcasting Directorate of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, it was found that the transition of analog TV broadcasts to digital TV runs smoothly.

"It is necessary to monitor it from time to time. So, ASO in these eight regencies and cities can be a good example to be carried out later in the next multiple ASO or the multiple stages of ASO," he said, Tuesday, May 3, 2022.

According to him, in addition to monitoring the evaluation of broadcasts that appear after stopping analog TV broadcasts, his subordinates must ensure that the distribution of Set Top Box (STB) equipment in areas that are preparing to welcome the next ASO also needs to be monitored.

"I hope that these multiple ASO efforts show the government's alignment with the Ministry of Communication and Information, to ensure that migration to digital TV is carried out with minimal impact during the transition period," he said.

Of course, digital TV broadcasts can provide equality of impressions that have not been obtained during analog TV broadcasts. Johnny G. Plate also appealed and invited all private TV service providers, local TV and community TV to immediately join the digital TV broadcast ecosystem.

The eight regions that first use ASO in Indonesia are Riau IV broadcasting area (Bengkalis Regency, Meranti Islands Regency, Dumai City), NTT III (North Central Timor Regency), NTT IV (Belu Regency and Malacca Regency), and West Papua (North Central Timor Regency). Sorong and Sorong City).

As for the transition of analog TV broadcasts to digital TV broadcasts, people in that eight regions can access national TV broadcasts from national TVRI and not limited to servings from local TVRI which used to only operate four hours a day.

There are also TVRI World and TVRI Sport services which add a row of interesting content to watch via digital TV broadcasts. Especially for the West Papua region, namely Sorong Regency and Sorong City. Meanwhile, they also get digital broadcasts from private TV broadcasters, namely Kompas TV.

For local TVs and TVs developed by the regional governments in these areas, it is promised that they will soon be broadcasting with digital broadcast technology, such as Bengkalis TV for the Riau IV region (Bengkalis Regency, Meranti Islands Regency, and Dumai City) as well as LPP Biinmafo broadcasts for the NTT III region.
