VIVA – The coordinating minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, confirmed that the government was still implementing restrictions on community activities restriction enforcement or locally known as PPKM in Java-Bali. This is still being applied to control COVID-19.

"The government also emphasized on this day, it will continue to implement the Java-Bali community activities restriction enforcement for an undetermined time and follow the results of regular evaluations led directly by the President," he said at the Presidential Office, Jakarta on Monday, May 9, 2022.

Although the community activities restrictions enforcement is still being implemented, the COVID-19 pandemic situation is getting under control. Nationally, for 25 consecutive days, Indonesia's daily COVID-19 positive cases have been below 1,000 cases and even below 500 cases in the last few days.

In addition, death cases also fell by 98 percent due to the Omicron variant and the positivity rate was below 0.7 percent.

According to Coordinating Minister Luhut Pandjaitan, the level of assessment carried out by the government until May 7, 2022, there are no districts/cities in Java and Bali that are at Level 4. In addition, only Pamekasan Regency is still at Level 3 due to inadequate vaccination achievements.

Based on this data, the government believes that cases of transmission of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Indonesia, especially during the Eid al-Fitr are still under control. The success of handling COVID-19 cannot be separated from the community's discipline in implementing health protocols and following vaccinations.

Luhut emphasized that this condition did not make the Indonesian government happy. The government will continue to uphold the principle of prudence in setting policies.

"As a strategic step that will be taken and has been implemented, of course, will uphold the principle of prudence, lest the improvements that have been achieved make us complacent and will eventually be in vain," he said.
