Tito Karnavian Inaugurates 5 Acting Governors

VIVA – On Thursday, May 12, 2022 the Minister of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Tito Karnavian inaugurates a number of Acting or locally known as Pj Governors. There are five Acting Governors who will be inaugurated by him.

The Acting Governor in a number of provinces is required to adjust Law Number 10 of 2016 concerning Regional Elections. The policy was made considering the simultaneous regional elections that were supposed to be in 2022 and 2023 were postponed to November 2024.

So, the Acting Governor will fill the vacancy of the provincial regional head until 2024. The appointment of this Acting Governor is the authority of the central government to appoint officials.

The five Acting Governors that Tito will inaugurate are Banten, West Sulawesi, Gorontalo, West Papua, and the Bangka Belitung Islands.

Special Staff of the Ministry of Home Affairs for Politics and Media, Kastorius Sinaga said the inauguration was held on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at around 8 AM. The inauguration took place in the Sasa Bhakti Praja Room.

"Yes. That's right. The plan is Thursday, May 12, at 8 AM," said Kastorius when confirmed by VIVA, Wednesday night, May 11, 2022.

A total of five acting or acting governors chosen by the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian and President Joko Widodo will be sworn to replace the definitive governors whose terms of office have expired leading the government in five provinces.



The acting governor was appointed because the definitive governors in the five regions would end their terms in the middle May 2022. The appointment of acting governors in these five regions is done. So, there are no power vacuums.

Previously, President Joko Widoso asked his staff to prepare replacements for governors, regents and mayors whose terms of office expire in 2022. Jokowi said that this year there will be 101 replacements for regional heads that must be prepared, with details of 7 governors, 76 regents, and 18 mayors.

One of the names to be sworn in is the former Papua Police Chief, Paulus Waterpauw. Paul will become the Acting Governor of West Papua. Here are 5 names that become Acting Governors:

Acting Governor of Banten, Al Muktabar (Banten Regional Secretary)

Acting Governor of the Bangka Belitung Islands, Ridwan Djamaluddin (Director General of Mineral and Coal, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources)

Acting Governor of West Sulawesi, Akmal Malik, (Director General of Regional Autonomy, Ministry of Home Affairs)

Acting Governor of Gorontalo, Hamka Hendra Noer, (Expert Staff for Sportivity Culture of the Ministry of Youth and Sports)

Acting Governor of West Papua, Commissioner General of Police (Ret.) Drs. Paulus Waterpauw (Deputy for the Management of Potential Border Areas of the BNPP Ministry of Home Affairs).
