VIVA – Bali has many beautiful tourist attractions. One of them are Tanah Lot Temple. The location of this temple is quite unique, namely on a large rock on the beach.

Tanah Lot Temple is a place of worship for Hindus. This temple can only be entered by Hindus. Even so, Tanah Lot Temple remains an attraction for a number of tourists. This combination of spiritual and beauty elements makes Tanah Lot Temple crowded with tourists from within and outside the country.

A number of Hindu religious ceremonies are often held at Tanah Lot Temple. One of them is the Piodalan or Pujawali ceremony which is the temple's birthday. The Piodalan ceremony is held once every 210 days according to the Saka calendar (the calendar of Hindus from India) or four days after the Kuningan holiday.

When the Piodalan ceremony is held, visitors will see a procession of pemedek. Pemedek is the name for Hindus who come to attend prayers at the temple without any specialties such as descent or kawitan.

Usually, this pemedek accompaniment comes from various parts of Bali and arrives around 4 to 6 days when the sea water is receding. The tourists are also allowed to mingle with pemedek.

It’s known that Tanah Lot Temple contains snakes which are considered sacred. This snake inhabits a cave at Tanah Lot Temple. The snakes are believed to be the guardians of the temple.

The types of snakes in Tanah Lot Temple are classified as dangerous. But don't worry, the snake in Tanah Lot is in the care of the handler.

Tanah Lot itself has two temples, namely Luhur temple Tanah Lot and Batu Bolong temple. These temples have different purposes. For example, Penataran Temple which functions as a place to worship God in order to get happiness. 

Then, there is the Jero Kandang Temple to ask for protection for livestock and agricultural crops from all diseases. Not far from Jero Kandang Temple is Enjung Galuh Temple, a temple for worshiping Dewi Sri, the goddess of soil fertility.

The tourists who visit Tanah Lot are sure to witness the beauty of the sunset on the Island of the Gods. Accompanied by the smell of the sea, the waves crashing against the beach, the orange light from the sun, and being with loved ones makes the atmosphere in Tanah Lot feels romantic.

Visitors are expected to come around 5 PM in order to get the right position to see the sunset.
