VIVA – The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), Secretary-General Muhammad Fadil Imran said 247 of the world's best badminton players from 32 countries will participate in the 2022 Indonesia Open. This prestigious tournament will be held on June 14-19, 2022 at Istora Senayan Jakarta.

“We must be grateful that the Indonesia Open can be held again in Jakarta. The previous tournament (2021) was held in Bali under a bubble system, and now it returns to Istora. Hopefully, it will be enlivened by the presence of the audience,” said Fadil at a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday, 25 May, 2022.

According to Fadil, the resumption of the BWF Super 1000 level tournament in Indonesia after being absent for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic is giving happiness for the badminton world, both nationally and globally.

"The Indonesia Open 2022 is the biggest and most prestigious event in the country. Players and spectators miss the excitement at Istora. I asked (Kento) Momota, do you miss playing in Jakarta? He said he really missed it because the atmosphere was very lively," Fadil revealed.

Ahead of next month's match, Fadil also ensures that all members of the Indonesian squad are ready to compete with their maximum ability. For PBSI, competing as the host must put out the best performance no matter what the result will be.

In addition, PBSI will also pay attention to the implementation of health protocols for all participants and spectators. With the start of sloping COVID cases in Indonesia and especially Jakarta, later all parties attending Istora will still be required to follow the applicable rules.

"We from PBSI ensure that we will obey government regulations. In this case on the basis of implementing sports activities. We have also received permission from the BNPB to hold this event, then the provincial government will also adjust it through the applicable governor's regulations," Fadil added.

With the maximum capacity of Istora Senayan which reaches around 7,000 spectators, Fadil feels optimistic that he can maintain the conditions and parameters of the progress until the end of the tournament.

"For maintaining the health protocols, we are optimistic that it will be maximized because I often handled things like this. Of course, the security forces will also be involved to maintain the tournament," concluded Muhammad Fadil Imran.
