Government Postpone Borobudur Temple Ticket Fee

VIVA – The coordinating minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and the Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo have agreed to postpone the increase for ticket fee admission to Borobudur Temple’s stupa area on Tuesday, June 7, 2022.Â
"We postponed it. Earlier, the minister said, ‘Mr. Governor, we will postpone it first, so there will be no stories (risk of disinformation),’" Ganjar Pranowo said after meeting Luhut Pandjaitan at the Central Java Governor Office.Â
Earlier, the Governor, Ganjar Pranowo had proposed delaying the proposed increase in ticket prices. According to him, several measures are needed before the new tariff can be implemented, especially since many people are protesting against the plan.
The governor had previously suggested delaying the ticket price increase, as there are several steps to take before it can be implemented.
According to Ganjar, the new ticket prices need to be reviewed by PT Tourism Park Borobudur Temple, Prambanan and Ratu Boko (PT TWC) and the Borobudur Conservation Center.
"I told him (the minister), there are a lot of protests. I think (we must) leave it first, and he agreed. (Let's) not talk about the matter of tariffs (now), postpone it instead, and TWC and the conservation center are communicating (with us), so the public does not need to worry. That is important to deliver," Ganjar Pranowo said.
The government plans to set a new entrance fee to the Borobudur Temple site, which is Rp750,000 for domestic tourists for a basic entrance ticket of Rp50.000 would only allow visitors access to the ground area, as the plan.
Not only that, but also the government plans to limit the number of people that can climb up the temple's stupas to 1,200 visitors/day.
"These two things need to be conveyed to the public so that they know why there are restrictions on people going up to the temple," Ganjar Pranowo said.
