Indonesia Impact Fund Gives US$500 Thousand to Greenhope Start-up

VIVA – The Indonesia Impact Fund, an investment fund managed by Mandiri Investment Management with Mandiri Capital Indonesia as the official investment advisor, provided funds worth US$500 thousand to Greenhope start-up. Greenhope is a start-up engaged in biotechnology.

Greenhope produces biodegradable-bioplastic by utilizing cassava. This investment is the second investment made by the Indonesia Impact Fund after previously investing in Cakap, an Indonesian technology education platform with the same amount on March 22.

"The Indonesia Impact Fund has an investment mandate to support the growth of Indonesian start-ups engaged in sustainability," said Chairman of ABAC Indonesia, Anindya Bakrie.

Anindya also said this initiative is also supported by the Chairperson of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Arsjad Rasjid, and members of ABAC Indonesia Shinta Kamdani and John Riady.

Other investors that have committed their participation to the Indonesia Impact Fund are Michael Sampoerna, Anderson Tanoto, Jonathan Thahir, Alvin Sariaatmadja, Agus Pangestu, and Arif Rachmat.

ABAC Indonesia appointed a Group from PT Mandiri Manajemen Investasi (Mandiri Investasi) as the fund manager of the Indonesia Impact Fund, namely Mandiri Investment Management Singapore Pte. Ltd. (MIMS), which is based in Singapore, ABAC Indonesia also wants to attract funds from foreign investors to participate in investing in the Indonesia Impact Fund.

Not only that, ABAC Indonesia also appointed UNDP as an advisor who monitors the management of startup companies in the use of funds, so that they are in line with sustainable development targets/SDGs. 

The vision of the Indonesia Impact Fund is to serve as a platform to raise awareness and provide support to young Indonesians. Another vision is to contribute through the development of startups that care about the social and environmental fields.

The total funding managed by the Indonesia Impact Fund is expected to reach US$5 million in two years that will be available through investments made by domestic and foreign investors.

For information, IIF is the first private social impact managed fund in Indonesia to invest in startups.

The program is also to accelerate sustainable development goals or Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Indonesia which focus on poverty alleviation, quality and affordable health services.

Then, for a quality and easily accessible education system, increased participation of women, sustainable urban and environmental development, and concern for climate change.
